This statistic shows the proportion of Scotland's river water that was unpolluted from 1994 to 2016. Since 1999, there has been an overall improvement in the quality of river water, although between 2007 and 2014 there had been a net increase in the proportion of polluted rivers in Scotland. The highest proportion of unpolluted rivers was 86.8 percent in 2012.
