In January 2021, global gaming sales amounted to 11.6 billion U.S. dollars. This represents a slight decline from the previous month, during which digital games worldwide generated revenue of 12 billion U.S. dollars, marking the highest total ever. This was no doubt in part due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, which forced many people across the globe to stay at home and look to video gaming as a means of entertainment.
