This statistic displays the average hours per day that U.S. eldercare providers spent providing care for someone age 65 and older due to conditions related to aging, in 2012-2013. During this time, those providing elderly care that was a parent of household children under the age of 18 spent an average of 2.4 hours per day on elderly care. In the United States, 16 percent of the population provide care for the elderly, with those between the age of 45 and 64 years, providing the most care.

Eldercare providers are those who in the prevous 3 to 4 months cared for someone with a condition related to aging. Estimates were calculated for persons who cared for at least one person age 65 or over. Data are annual averages for 2012 and 2013.
