Europe here includes only France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. Sweet and savoury biscuits had one of the larger shares of the market, representing 8.6 percent of the total ambient food sales value in the selected European countries.
Ambient food refers to products that have been processed or packaged so they can be stored at room or ambient temperatures for a longer shelf life.

* Europe includes France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. Data for each country has been consolidated for each category with the following exceptions:
Sweet and savoury biscuits: UK data excludes crackers and wafers.
Bread and baked products: The Netherlands data only includes shelf-stable bread, no other baked products.
Sweet spreads and sauces: Only German and the Netherlands includes peanut and other nut spreads.
Market channels used include supermarkets and hypermarkets, plus drugstores, hard discounters, small self service and impulse outlets depending on the region.
