From 2004 to 2023, Catalonia's share of national gross value added (GVA) declined. Before the financial crisis hit Spain, Catalonia's share of GVA was around 20 percent, but it began to decline sharply from 2007. In 2023, Catalonia contributed 19.8 percent of the total GVA.
