This statistic displays the number of hospitals in the U.S. that are in and out of a multihospital system ownership (MHS) from 2004 to 2014. In 2010, there were 2,237 hospitals not in an MHS. The Affordable Care Act impacted the way hospitals function, for example, by decreasing the necessity for hospital readmissions and hospital acquired infections.
