"High net worth individuals" (HNWI) in financial services and private wealth management industries signifies persons, whose investible assets (stocks, bonds etc.) exceed a specific given amount. In the case of the underlying report, the threshold minimum defined for these figures was at least one million U.S. dollars in financial assets.

The UK’s wealthy

The number of high net worth individuals (HNWI's) in the United Kingdom (UK) and in Europe from 2009 to 2019 has seen overall growth. Between 2018 and 2019, both the United Kingdom and Europe saw an increase in HNWI's. The UK has the fourth highest population of individuals that are in the top one percent globally. The vast majority of HNWI’s reside in the Asia Pacific, North America and Europe regions.

Europe’s Wealthiest

In 2019, Germany had more high net worth individuals than France and the UK combined. When it came to billionaires in European countries, the gap was not so large. HNWI’s wealth in terms of assets is held mostly in equities, cash and cash equivalents, fixed income and real estate.
