In a 2023 survey, 52 percent of interviewed fishing participants in the United States indicated that the best thing about fishing, besides catching fish, was the enjoyment of the sounds and smells of nature. Meanwhile, 51 percent of survey participants said that getting away from the usual demands of life was one of the best things about fishing.
