In 2021, Guatemala had an established business ownership rate of 12.7 percent, the highest among selected surveyed countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was followed by Brazil with a ten percent rate. Established businesses and their owner-managers often provide stable employment and exploit the knowledge and social capital accumulated in past experiences. Established businesses are also an important source of new businesses. Furthermore, Guatemala had also the highest new business ownership rate in 2020, at over 16 percent.
