Tesla employees IPO to 2023

The number of people employed full-time by Tesla and its subsidiaries came to nearly 140,500 at the end of 2023. The staggering increase in Tesla's workforce came after a decline of around 1.6 percent between 2018 and 2019. The fiscal year end of the company is December, 31st.

Meeting the demands of the electric vehicle industry

The general increase in the number of employees between 2010 and 2023 is in line with growing production, as Tesla works to provide electric vehicles for the broader market. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Tesla produced around 495,000 vehicles. The size of the global market for electric vehicles is expected to reach nearly 906.7 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2028.

Manufacturing plants across the globe

To reach these goals, in 2016 Tesla opened an electric vehicle factory called Gigafactory 1 located near Reno, Nevada. This is around the time that the number of Tesla employees increased. In order to get a foothold in the Chinese auto market, a Shanghai-based manufacturing plant began construction in 2018. In March 2022, the government of Brandenburg granted Tesla's gigafactory in Berlin its final environmental approval, and the factory had started production of Model Y vehicles by the end of April of that same year.
