Leading petrol-powered motorcycle manufacturers in China 2023, by sales volume

Chinese gasoline-powered motorcycle maker Da Changjiang is the best-selling brand, with a sales volume of about 1.4 billion units in the first nine months of 2023. It sold almost 60 percent more than the second placeholder Loncin.

Motorcycle manufacturing in China

In 2021, more than 20 million motorcycles were produced in China, and monthly motorcycle production amounted to between 1 and 1.9 million units. A breakdown of motorcycle production volume by type in China reveals that two-wheeled motorcycles take up the lion’s share of production with a volume of about 1.3 million units in January 2022 alone.

A series of bans and limitations on petrol-powered motorcycles in Chinese urban areas has notably affected sales development. Between 2012 and 2016, annual motorcycle sales in China have seen a five-year consecutive decrease. Due to weakening domestic demand, the motorcycle manufacturing industry in China is contingent upon export performance. The export value of motorcycles had doubled over the past seven years, reaching 12.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2021. Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Loncin ranked first in October 2021, with a total export value worth 68.4 million U.S. dollars.
