Energy drink brands of Lucozade in Great Britain 2023, by number of consumers

The British company Lucozade offers consumers several varieties of soft drinks, but the most commonly consumed is Lucozade Energy. In 2023, an estimated 3.69 million people drank this product. 
Originally named “Glucozade”, Lucozade was first created in 1927 and was used as a source of energy for people who were ill. Since 2013 it has been owned by the Japanese beverage company Suntory.

Energy drinks

Aside from Lucozade, there are many other energy drinks available throughout Great Britain. The most popular of which is Red Bull, with an estimated 3.6 million users. Originating in Thailand, the now Austrian Red Bull was first introduced to the UK in 1994.

Energy drink health risks

To combat the rising levels of childhood obesity, the UK government has recently introduced levies such as a sugar tax. Additionally, in 2018 the government announced that it would be banning the sale of energy drinks such as Red Bull and Monster to children under the age of 16.
Recent published reports have also highlighted other health risks associated with energy drinks, such as high blood pressure, anxiety and insomnia.
