In 2026, Pfizer is expected to generate around 50 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of prescription drug sales, making it the pharmaceutical company with the seventh highest projected Rx drug-based sales for that specific year. With nearly 60 billion U.S. dollars, AbbVie is forecast to stand in first place.

GlaxoSmithKline plc, a British enterprise, based in Brentford, United Kingdom, is one of Europe’s largest pharmaceutical companies. GSK is projected to generate about 41.5 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of Rx drug sales in 2026, putting the company in tenth place. In terms of total revenue, they generated more than 34 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, which was the highest revenue amount the company had made since 2006.

European pharmaceutical industry

The top ten list based on projected Rx drug sales included other European pharma companies, such as Sanofi, Roche, and AstraZeneca. In terms of both retail sales and R&D (research & development) spending, the Swiss Roche AG was the European leader in 2020. That year, the pharmaceutical giant generated sales figures of approximately 47.5 billion U.S. dollars and spent 11.3 billion U.S. dollars on R&D.
