The annual spending on pets and pet related products in the UK from 2005 to 2021 has had ups and downs. Generally, however, spending has increased during this time period. From 2005 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2012, spending in this category was on a downward trend. However, from 2015 onwards, annual spending on pets and related products has been on an upward trend, reaching 9.3 billion British pounds in 2021.
Expenditure on pets and related products in the UK
Not surprisingly, UK consumers with the highest ten percent of gross income also spend the most on pets and pet food per week. Consumers who earn in the top ten percent of gross income spend an average of 14 pounds and 40 pence per week. The leading pet and related products retailer in the UK is Tesco. Tesco sold 572.3 million British pounds worth of products in 2017.
Market value of dog treats in the UK
On a more specific level, the market for dog treats has grown in value over the decade as well. The UK’s market value for dog treats in 2018 reached a high of 462 million British pounds. This value has continually increased year-after-year since 2007.
