This statistic presents the app categories with the highest abandonment rates as of March 2014. During the survey period it was found that 23 percent of sports apps were only accessed once during the first six months of ownership. In 2015, a total of 25 percent apps downloaded by mobile app users worldwide were only accessed once during the first six months of ownership.

The retention metrics for each cohort are based on users who first downloaded an app in Q3 of each year, and then identified how many times those apps were launched on the same devices through March 15th of the following year.
