Age distribution of air passengers in the UK by airport 2019
The youngest air passengers were found at Stansted and Luton Airport. Given that both airports are known as bases for low-cost carriers like Ryanair, easyJet and TUI Airways, this seems unsurprising. The share of those aged 45 years and older was similar for all three major London airports - Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton. Stansted being the only exception, where the share of older passengers was smallest.
Heathrow busiest airport
Heathrow was the busiest airport in the United Kingdom. With roughly 67 million passengers passing through in 2018, it also surpassed all other air travel hubs in Europe in 2017, pushing ahead of Frankfurt, Paris and Istanbul.
Gender differences
In terms of gender distribution, Heathrow was the only airport with a noticeable difference in the gender of its passengers. In 2019, 53 percent of passengers utilizing the airport had been male. Other London airports had reported an equal share of both genders.
