This statistic represents the opinions of U.S. car owners on the quality of car brands. The telephone survey was conducted between December 6 and 15, 2013; the respondents' answers were converted into an index score. U.S. car brand Chevrolet, one of GM's divisions, acquired an index score of 19.1 percent. Brands like Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet remain highly regarded in the 2013 survey.

According to the source, overall brand perception is an index calculated as the total number of times that a particular make was mentioned as exemplar across seven categories, weighted by category importance, and divided by the total unaided awareness of the brand. The following categories were included: quality, safety, performance, value, design/style, fuel economy, technology/innovation. The scores for safety reflect the number of times that the particular make was mentioned as a leader for the particular, attribute.
