BP's employment figures 2011-2024

BP employed 100,500 people as of December 31, 2024. Between 2022 and 2024, BP hired more than 30,000 people. This was the steepest increase in the period of consideration. 

BP: a global employer

Of BP’s three business segments, most people worked in the Customer & products segment, at 73,100 full-time employees. The Oil production & operations department is the third largest, with 9,200 employees, compared with 6,500 people employed in its Gas & low-carbon energy segment. These people are employed throughout the world, as BP produces oil on almost every continent.

Employment within the global oil and gas industry

Although BP employs a large number of people, compared to other major global oil and gas companies its workforce is noticeably smaller. The largest oil and gas companies worldwide by employment are state-owned businesses such as Russia's Gazprom and China's PetroChina.
