Brazil is the leading trade partner for silicon metal imported into the United States, accounting for some 35 percent of shipments between 2019 and 2022. This was followed by neighboring country Canada, making up another 25 percent of U.S. silicon metal imports. Due to its semiconductor properties, silicon is often used in solar panels, computer chips, and as a part of the automotive industry.
