This statistic displays the usage of mobile phones for purchasing or preparing food by specialty food and non-specialty food consumers in the U.S. in 2013. In order to gather this information, an online questionnaire was conducted among 2,000 adults with internet access in the United States. The survey revealed that 16 percent of specialty food consumers use a mobile app to create a shopping list.

Mintel selects survey respondents to be proportionally balanced to the U.S. adult population based on the key demographics of gender, age, household income and region. Specialty foods were defined as foods of premium quality that are often made by small or local manufacturers or have ethnic or exotic flavors; foods that
are distinctive.
