Worldwide, India was the country with the highest number of people living in modern slavery, either as forced laborers, sexual exploitation, forced marriages or other forms of coercion. An estimated 11 million people were living in modern slavery in India, followed by 5.8 million in China. This may come as no surprise as these are the two most populous countries worldwide. North Korea was the country with the highest number of people in modern slavery per 1,000 inhabitants.
