In 2022, the U.S. basic chemicals industry reached a new record high, with shipments valued at nearly 395 billion U.S. dollars. This was a remarkable recovery from the previous year, when the COVID-19 pandemic caused a sharp decline in demand and production. The growth in 2022 was driven by the increased consumption of plastics, fertilizers, paints, and pharmaceuticals, as well as the improved global economic outlook.
