Domestic spending on day trips Great Britain 2022

Domestic tourism expenditure on day trips in Great Britain reached 45.04 billion British pounds in 2022. This signified a partial recovery from the dramatic decline in spending in 2020 and 2021, which came as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Nevertheless, expenditure in 2022 was still around a third less than the figure recorded in 2019, when it stood at 66.98 billion British pounds. Meanwhile, domestic spending on overnight trips in Great Britain totaled 32.9 billion British pounds in 2022.

A new methodology was employed, which saw the Great Britain Day Visitor Survey combined with the Great Britain Tourism Survey, as well as a new weighting system that reduced the number of weighted cells from 1,408 to 616. As a result, figures for 2021 and 2022 are classified as experimental statistics rather than official statistics and are not entirely comparable to pre-2020 data. "Tourism day visits" are defined as day visits not taken on a regular basis and located out of the participant's "usual environment". This distinguishes them from leisure day visits which include any excursions away from home including at least one leisure activity.
