Leading coffee shop chains' revenue in the UK 2022

Coffeehouse chain Costa Limited generated a revenue of over 1.1 billion British pounds in the United Kingdom in 2022. This was over twice as much as the revenue of two of its major competitors in the UK: Starbucks Coffee Company (UK) Limited and the Caffè Nero Group.

Costa still leading player on UK coffee market

Since its founding in London in 1971 by two Italian brothers, Costa Coffee has expanded its operations in the UK to include nearly 2,700 units as of January 2023, making it the UK's coffee chain with the largest number of stores. Costa, however, is not only the leading coffeehouse player in the UK but also in Europe, where it holds the highest number of outlets of any coffee shop chain.

Costa Coffee's financial output and its strong presence on the UK's high streets are reflected in the chain's status as one of the most popular dining brands in the UK in 2023. The brand also ranks highly in terms of coffee caffeine level among the UK's leading coffee shop chains, boasting the cappuccino with the biggest caffeine hit by a considerable margin as of February 2023.
