Approximately 991 thousand overseas residents' visits were made to the United Kingdom for the purpose of visiting friends or relatives in September 2023. The highest number of similar trips over the period from January 2018 to September 2023 was made in August 2023, at approximately 1.3 million. By contrast, the lowest figure was recorded in April 2020 at just 29 thousand visits, soon after the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, no data were collected between the second and third quarters of 2020. For that period, figures refer to estimates and models based on passenger numbers and IPS trend data.
Data for 2021 do not include estimates for visits across the Irish land border. No data for the Eurotunnel was gathered from January 2021 to June 2022 but estimates include the passenger numbers using that route.
