Domestic tourism in Great Britain tends to peak in the summer months. In 2019, 15 million overnight trips were taken across Britain by domestic tourists, up from 14.5 million in the same period a year earlier. Trips include those for leisure/vacation, business, and visiting friends or relatives.

** Interviewing is carried out every week of the year using a face-to-face methodology. Annually, some 100,000 respondents are contacted, and any who have returned from an overnight trip within the past four weeks are asked to describe the details of that trip. Field work for the December update was conducted January 8 to March 1, 2020.
