Monthly spend on household energy in the UK 2010-2012, by country

This statistic shows the average monthly spend on household energy in the United Kingdom (UK) from 2010 to 2012, by country. Whilst the figures for England and Wales were quite similar, those in Scotland, and especially Northern Ireland, paid considerably more on average per month for their energy. This could be due in part to the energy infrastructure in Northern Ireland. The gas network is relatively limited and where mains gas is available, there is often only one supplier and therefore less competition. This arguably causes many households (68 percent according to the N. Ireland House Conditions survey) to use oil-fired central heating which is likely to lead to higher energy costs.
