Monthly inbound tourist spending in the UK 2018-2023

The monthly expenditure of overseas tourists in the United Kingdom generally increased in 2023 over the previous year. For example, in September 2023, inbound visitors spent 2.83 billion British pounds in the UK. By contrast, this figure amounted to just 2.6 billion British pounds in the same month of 2022.

³ Data derive from the International Passenger Survey (IPS) with a sample size of approximately 20,000 per month.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, no data were collected between the second and third quarters of 2020. For that period, figures refer to estimates and models based on passenger numbers and IPS trend data.

Data for 2021 do not include estimates for visits across the Irish land border. No data for the Eurotunnel was gathered from January 2021 to June 2022 but estimates include the passenger numbers using that route.
