Share of socially rented households in England 2000-2023
The proportion of households occupied by social renters in England from 2000 to 2023 decreased, from a share of 19.5 percent of households in 2000 to a share of 16.4 percent of households in 2023. This is a decrease of almost three percent over the period of 22 years. In 2023, around four million houses were occupied by households socially renting. The largest shares of social rented households in England during the period under observation were 2000 and 2001, when a total of almost 20 percent of all households were recorded as socially rented.
