Share of people who contacted their MP in Great Britain 1983-2011

This statistic shows the percentage of people who contacted their MP in Great Britain (GB) from 1983 to 2011. In 2011, this was 16 percent. The peak of this period was in 1991 and 2002 when 17 percent of respondents contacted their Member of Parliament. In the survey, participants were asked "have you ever done any of these things about a government action which you thought was unjust and harmful?". Participants were given a number of options. The most common positive response was "signing a petition".
