In 2022, respondents in the United Kingdom (UK) with a household reference person aged 75 or over spent an average of eight and a half British pounds a week on personal care. The age group with the highest weekly average spending was the 50 to 64 age group, who spent 12.60 British pounds.

The household reference person is defined in the source as the householder who Owns the household accommodation, or Is legally responsible for the rent of the accommodation, or Has the household accommodation as an emolument or perquisite, or Has the household accommodation by virtue of some relationship to the owner who is not a member of the household. If there are joint householders the household reference person is the one with the higher income. If the income is the same, then the eldest householder is taken. Personal care includes hairdressing, beauty treatment, toilet paper, toiletries, soap, baby toiletries and accessories (disposable), hair products, cosmetics and related electrical appliances.
