According to a survey in the United Kingdom, respondents with a household reference person aged between 50 and 64 spent an average of 10 British pounds on holiday accommodation within the UK, which was the highest among the age groups surveyed. In comparison, respondents with a household reference person aged less than 30 had the least average weekly spending on domestic holiday accommodations. Overall, households spent approximately 8 British pounds a week on holiday accommodation in the UK in that period.

The household reference person was defined in the source as one who owns the household accommodation, or is legally responsible for the rent of the accommodation, or has the household accommodation as an emolument or perquisite, or has the household accommodation by virtue of some relationship to the owner who is not a member of the household. If there are joint householders, the household reference person is the one with the higher income. If the income is the same, then the eldest householder is the reference person.
