Among the most common surgical cosmetic procedures in the U.S., satisfaction levels of patients are relatively high. Up to 95 percent of those who received breast augmentation surgery stated they would do it again, while 91 percent of those who received rhinoplasty said they would have the procedure again. Surgical cosmetic procedures are a type of plastic surgery that attempt to permanently change one’s appearance, compared to non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as botox or hair removal, which are less invasive and temporary.

Cosmetic surgery in the U.S.

The most common cosmetic procedures in the United States by number of procedures include lipoplasty or liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and breast lifts. Women are more likely to choose cosmetic surgery than men, but men do also choose to receive cosmetic surgery. The most common such procedures among men are breast reduction, lipoplasty, and blepharoplasty or cosmetic eyelid surgery.

Cosmetic surgery worldwide

Brazil overtook the United States as the country with the highest number of surgical cosmetic procedures worldwide, third in place was Mexico. In the United States, there were over 1.6 million such procedures in 2021. The most common cosmetic procedures worldwide are liposuction, breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, and tummy tuck.
