In 2021, the global production of synthetic industrial diamonds (also known as lab-grown diamonds) was estimated to have been some 15.4 billion carats. Industrial diamonds are diamonds that are used for industrial purposes, such as for their abrasive properties, rather than as gemstones in jewelry.
