In 2023, approximately 34.3 million tourists arriving from abroad in mainland China stayed for a minimum of one night. In comparison, the number of such arrivals was almost double in 2019.

The figures include holiday trips, business trips, visiting relatives and other reasons for entering China. Each entry is counted as an arrival, two entries by the same person are counted as two arrivals. The source counts inhabitants of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan among the foreign tourists.
