The statistic shows the results of a survey carried out by HSBC between July 2012 and April 2013 in selected countries with regard to retirement savings and expecations relating to how sufficient they will be. Of those questioned in the United Kingdom, 37 percent stated that they believed that they expected their retirement saving to run out just over half way through retirement.

The research surveyed 16,000 people in 15 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States. The findings are based on a representative online sample, covering people of working age (25 and over) and those in retirement.
Not all respondents were of retiring ages.
