Media used regularly in the United Kingdom (UK) 2019

The most commonly used media in the United Kingdom, as of 2019, was the mobile phone. An enormous majority, 95 percent of respondents to the survey, used a mobile phone regularly. The second most regularly used media was any TV (including smart and standard TV).

The frequency of mobile phone use

Mobile phone usage in the UK has increased over the past few years, and in 2018 was at an all-time high. In 2017, 94 percent of adults in the UK were using a mobile phone, and in 2014 the figure stood at just 89 percent. But it’s not just adults. After the age of 10 most children in the UK own a smartphone, and by the age of 15 the number of smartphone owners rises to 93 percent. It should be noted that tablet ownership is actually more common among younger children.

Games consoles and smart speakers

A quarter of the UK regularly used a games console. However, the most common device used to play games in the UK in 2018 was not a games console but the mobile phone.
