Around 188 billion minutes of calls were made in the United Kingdom in 2023. The vast majority of these were mobile calls, with just over 23 billion made via a fixed phone line. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic saw a spike in calls in both 2020 and 2021, with phone calls replacing face-to-face contact for many UK residents. Following years of decline, the total number of minutes spent on phone calls in 2020 increased to the highest level since 2012.
