China's hydropower consumption amounted to 12.23 exajoules in 2022, slightly down from 12.25 exajoules in the previous year. The East Asian country recorded its highest consumption volume in 2020. China has one of the largest hydroelectric facilities in the world located on the Yangtze River and is the leading hydroelectricity consumer in the world, with over 30 percent of the world's consumption.
