Ranking of the highest roller coasters worldwide 2024

As of May 2024, the U.S. theme park Six Flags Great Adventure had the highest roller coaster worldwide; its attraction Kingda Ka was 456 feet (around 139 meters) high. The second highest roller coaster was Top Thrill 2, which was located at Cedar Point in the United States. Seven out of the ten highest roller coasters are located in theme parks in the United States.   

Leading roller coasters worldwide

As well as being the highest roller coaster in the world, Kingda Ka also ranked among the leading roller coasters in terms of speed in 2024 with a maximum speed of 128 miles per hour (around 205 km/h). The fastest roller coaster in the world, however, was the Formula Rossa at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. The ride can achieve a maximum speed of around 149.1 miles per hour (around 240 km/h). Formula Rossa also qualified as the third longest roller coaster worldwide in 2024, with a total length of over 6.8 thousand feet (around 2,074) meters. Comparatively, Kingda Ka is a relatively short ride. The Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan was ranked as the longest roller coaster in the world, with a total length of 8,133 feet (around 2,479 meters). 

 Most visited theme parks 

Amusement and theme parks are a popular leisure activity for those of all ages across the world. With the United States being home to a huge variety of amusement parks, it is perhaps no surprise that Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida was the most visited theme park worldwide, with over 17 million visitors in 2022. Despite having some of the leading roller coasters in terms of height and speed, respectively, Six Flags Great Adventure and Ferrari World were not among the most visited global amusement parks.
