The uranium oxide described in this statistic is triuranium octoxide. The chemical formula for triuranium octoxide is U 3 O 8. Triuranium octoxide (U3O8) is the first intermediate product that is extracted when processing uranium ores. At that stage, uranium exists in the oxidation states + IV and + VI. Under strong heat, it is reduced to uranium dioxide (UO2).
Triuranium octoxide is also commonly know as "yellow cake".
