Get in touch with us nowThe number of returned internally displaced persons (IDPs) reached a peak in 2022 when more than 8.3 million IDPs were returned worldwide. An IDP is a person who has fled from their home but still resides in its home country. The number of returned IDPs also reached high peaks in 2015 and 2019 with over 6.5 and five million returnees, respectively. During the period of consideration, the number of returned refugees peaked in 2002 at 2.4 million before falling after that and fluctuating during the 2010s. In 2023, over one million refugees returned to their home countries.
