This statistic illustrates the results of a written survey conducted by the Food Waste Reduction Alliance and the Business for Social Responsibility in 2013. Survey respondents of the manufacturing and retail and wholesale sector were asked regarding barriers that prevent their company from donating unsaleable food. Some 69 percent of respondents operating in the retail and wholesale sector indicated that insufficient storage and refrigeration at food banks was a barrier of donating more unmerchantable food.
