This statistic shows a breakdown of migrant workers in China from 2013 to 2023, by age. In 2023, about 15.4 percent of migrant workers in China were between 21 and 30 years old. The workforce of migrant workers in China is gradually growing old and fewer young people are starting to work as migrant workers.
Distribution of migrant workers in China from 2013 to 2023, by age
The data have been collected through a survey which covered rural workers from 31 provinces, 1,730 districts and 8,613 villages in 2023.
A migrant laborer is defined as someone who leaves their place of origin for a period of more than six months in a bid to find work elsewhere. They either stay in their home province or move to another province in their search for employment.
