Marriott net income 2007-2023
Global hotel giant Marriott accounted for a net loss of approximately 267 million U.S. dollars in 2020, down from the previous year’s net income of 1.27 billion U.S. dollars. This loss can be attributed to travel restrictions related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In 2021, the company reported a net income of 1.09 billion U.S. dollars. That figure increased to 3.08 billion in 2023.
A global player in the hotel industry
With over eight thousand hotels around the world, Marriott was one of the largest hotel chains worldwide in 2023. It also ranked ahead of other large hotel chains such as Hilton Inc., in terms of sales that year. In addition, as of June 2022, Marriott operated approximately 1.5 million guestrooms, while Hilton accounted for over one million guestrooms.
Marriott customer satisfaction
Aside from revenue and number of properties, hotel brands are also evaluated according to customer satisfaction. A brand’s American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) score is measured by averaging the results of three different survey questions regarding different facets of customer satisfaction. In 2023, Marriott International received the ACSI score of 80. The results were obtained from a survey of consumers in the United States.
