Opinion on independence of the DPR and LPR in Russia 2022
As of February 22, 2022, seven out of ten surveyed Russians supported the decision of their President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) from Ukraine, which was announced on February 21. These separatist territories claimed sovereign in 2014. Several countries and international organizations imposed sanctions placed sanctions on Russia for recognizing their independence and deploying troops in them.
