The value of euro coins in circulation within the Eurozone increased by roughly three percent at the end of 2023, a decrease from earlier periods. While the overall value of coins kept growing to all-time highs, the use of cash across Europe varies significantly between countries. Countries like Germany or countries around the Mediterranean were more likely to use cash in stores or restaurants compared to the Nordics or the Netherlands.
