The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic severely impacted the hotel industry in the Americas. In April 2020, the hotel occupancy rate in South America was 11 percent, down from 31 percent the previous month. Three years later, in April 2023, the hotel occupancy rate in South America was 56 percent.
