This statistic shows the results of a survey among American cat owners and dog owners who did not own a pet at the time of the survey. They were asked how long it had been since a cat or dog was living in their household. 26 percent of the dog owners and 29 percent of the cat owners said it had been 1 to 2 years since a dog or a cat had been living in their home.
