Bonus breakdown at Goldman Sachs in 2009

The statistic shows the extent of the bonus culture at Goldman Sachs in 2009, the year after the financial crisis hit. The bank had received 10 billion U.S. dollars in TARP funds (Trouble Asset Relief Program) a fund released in by the U.S. Treasury to be used by organizations during the financial crisis in an attempt to stabilize the American economy. In 2008, the bank spent a total of 4.82 billion U.S. dollars on bonuses, which included 2.24 billion in cash bonuses. The top four executives received a combined sum of 45.9 million U.S. dollars in 2009, where as in this year 953 received bonuses of at least 1 million U.S. dollars. The total work force at Goldman Sachs in this year amounted to 30,067.
